A Day in the Life
Below you will find a sample schedule for a first grade teacher.

Arrival and Prep
Teachers arrive by 7:15 each day. Teachers use time before school to prepare for the day.

Staff Morning Huddle
Each morning, we kick the day off in a short standing meeting, known as staff huddle. During this time we receive important announcements, review key skill that the staff is prioritizing, and celebrate our team.

Scholar Arrival
Teachers welcome scholars at their class door while monitoring breakfast and brain breakfast (work to get the scholars thinking right off the bat!).

Morning Meeting
Teachers lead scholars in reading morning message, chanting school and college chants, setting or monitoring goals, and silent reflection.

Reading & Integrated Science or Social Studies
Teachers teach Core Knowledge Listening and Learning Strand, which includes read aloud and a discussion.
9:00
Literacy Rotation 1 and 2
Teachers teach Core Knowledge Language Arts Skills Strand which includes phonemic awareness, phonics, and handwriting instruction. The teacher works with half of the class while the other scholars read independently or work on Lexia, a blended learning literacy program.

Writing
Teachers teach the writing and grammar components of Core Knowledge Language Arts Strand.

Lunch
Teachers enjoy their lunch.
12:15
Planning
Teachers review and prepare for upcoming lessons. Once per week teachers have a one-on-one meeting with their manager during planning time to continue to work on their development.

CGI
Teachers facilitate scholars in solving a math word problem using Cognitively Guided Instruction process.

Math
Teachers use Eureka math to teach a Common Core-aligned math lesson.

Planning
Teachers have another opportunity to work on preparing for upcoming lessons.

Independent Enrichment
Teachers work with a small group of scholars who need academic interventions while the other scholars work on Code.org for their independent enrichment activity or participate in homework detention.

Dismissal
Teachers transition scholars to dismissal and support the dismissal process.
4:15
Prep
Teachers use this time to prepare for the next day. Two days per week teachers keep a scholar or small group for remediation until 5:15.
